EXPERTISE

Kathy has practiced with Swanson & Bratschun since August 2005.  Kathy practices Intellectual Property law with a focus on patent prosecution in the biotechnology and chemical practice areas.  She has experience in various aspects of client counseling including U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate opinions, infringement and validity opinions, licensing agreements, and overall due diligence reviews.  Kathy particularly enjoys working with clients to manage their patent portfolios and develop business strategies based on their IP. 

Prior to law school, Kathy obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Pharmacology.  Kathy’s thesis and supporting research focused on the elucidation of signaling pathways relating to MAP kinases, utilizing targeted stem cell gene deletion,  RNAi knockdown, and micro array analysis. As an undergraduate, Kathy worked as an organic chemist, analyzing furocoumarin derivatives.
