EXPERTISE

Mary has practiced with Swanson & Bratschun since December 2005. Mary’s practice includes advising biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies on complex legal issues relating to the worldwide protection and enforcement of their intellectual property, including creation and management of complex international patent portfolios, freedom-to-operate and patentability issues, validity and infringement issues, and due diligence investigations. Mary’s technical expertise extends to the areas of small molecules, virology, vaccines, new genes and proteins, gene therapy, and biotherapeutics including RNA biotherapeutics, as well as fermentation processes. Additional areas of expertise include food science and materials science.

Prior to commencing her legal career, Mary spent ten years working in the biotechnology industry as a bench scientist in the fields of cytokines and inflammation. Mary obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Davis, in biochemistry.

Mary enjoys hiking and mountain biking and spends most of her time outside the office with her husband and two children.
